AI Inventory & Supply Chain

Demand forecasting, stock optimization, supplier management, and automated reordering for small businesses.

Inventory management is a constant bet against two outcomes: 'not enough' (lost sales, angry customers) and 'too much' (dead stock, cash tied up). AI won't make the bet for you, but it gives you better odds.

Demand forecasting: AI analyzes historical sales, seasonality, trends, and external factors (weather, local events, holidays) to predict future demand. Tools like Lokad, Blue Yonder, or even a custom GPT fed your sales data can produce weekly forecasts. Start with 4-week rolling predictions.

Stock optimization: define min/max stock levels per SKU. AI adjusts these dynamically based on demand velocity, lead time variability, and supplier reliability. High-velocity items get safety stock; slow movers get just-in-time ordering. Review the AI's recommendations weekly during the transition period.

Supplier management: AI tracks supplier performance — on-time delivery rate, defect rate, lead time consistency, price trends. Score suppliers quarterly and use the data in negotiations. 'Your on-time rate dropped to 87% last quarter — we need a discount or a backup supplier.'

Auto-reordering: when stock hits the reorder point, AI generates a purchase order, sends it to the supplier, and updates the expected arrival date. The human reviews exceptions only — orders above a threshold, new suppliers, or unusual quantities. This is the final step after forecasting and optimization are trusted.
